ARTIFACT #1-MODIFIED ACTIVITY FOR STUDENT WITH IEP
Below is an example of a formative assessment I modified for a student with an IEP. The document on the left is the assessment that the general population of students received. On the right is a version with 50% of the answer choices available based on this student's SDI. This an example of the kind of modifying I did at New Brighton. I worked directly with the learning support teacher to come up with this modification. I believe adjusting instruction is necessary so that content becomes accessible to all students. Education is a basic right that all students deserve.
ARTIFACT #2-DIFFERENTIATED READINGS BASED ON LITERACY LEVEL
Below are three different versions of the same reading I compiled for my unit on the Holocaust. These readings were created based on Lexile levels. To do this, I pulled the independent reading levels of my students from the star test results. The readings rise in complexity from left to right. I co-taught this reading with the two teachers I work with--the content teacher of my classroom and the learning support teacher for 8th grade at New Brighton Middle. We used parallel teaching to read and discuss the text in groups.
